Have you ever asked your husband to run the dishwasher and when you return home you immediately check if the dishes are clean? Just me?

During our kids 3 week (what? why?) holiday break I caught a resentment rash. When my husband failed to run the dishwasher I transformed into a prickly porcupine. He was still sitting at his work-from-home desk smack dab in our family room. But, he must have gotten up because there were dishes next to the sink and crumbs from an everything bagel on the counter. I had probable cause to murder him, right? But I digress.
Jail time isn't really part of my sparkly vision. Instead of sliding into martyr mode I took responsibility and dropped and did 10 gratitudes for my husband.
He's working!!! He has a great job and provides for our family.
He plows the driveway and pulls all the snow off the roof, keeping us safe.
He plays card games with our twins after dinner and gives me a break.
He laughs so hard he cries when we watch movies.
When we go hiking he packs our flip flops/crocs for post hike relief.
He is my adventure soulmate. We're exploring a sabbatical in Costa Rica '26 😎
He holds my hand when I zigzag walk on sidewalks.
His bear paw fits perfectly on my lower back.
He wanted a well trained bird dog for hunting. He caved and we added a Golden Retreiver puppy to our pack because he knew I would melt.
When I stepped back from being our family's travel agent, he stepped up. He's made all of our travel arrangements for the past 4 years. What a relief!
It's extremely challenging to stay grumpy when I have evidence of all the ways my husband adds to my life. Did I mention that when I asked him about the dishwasher I was going skiing with our kids? I was out playing in the snow while he was working.
So, next time you're feeling that itchy resentment rash coming on, how would it fit to drop and do 10 gratitudes? Maybe your porcupine quills will stand down and you'll see that incredible guy you fell in love with again.
Bonus: This exercise works wonders for co workers, mother-in-laws, brothers and even yourself when negative thoughts creep in.
